Ryan Jakubek (b. 1988) is a Canadian-Slovak visual artist and photographer. He holds a BFA from Toronto Metropolitan University and has completed printmaking residencies in Italy, Spain, and Indonesia. His projects begin as photographs exploring a specific topic, taking form when contrasting themes are assigned to distinct material layers. Abstraction emerges where layers meet, echoing converging perspectives of the initial topic. These bodies of work have been exhibited in non-profit cultural institutions and public galleries.

After receiving his degree in Image Arts, Ryan began working in principal photography on scripted film and television productions. Credits span more than fifty titles for clients including Netflix, Lionsgate, HBO, Amazon, and Disney. He also produces situated documentary photography for publication and distribution.

The resulting image archive grounds a studio practice based in traditional printmaking and alternative photographic processes. Expanded works orient printed matter toward installation contexts, integrating collage, sculpture, painterly gesture, and video projection.

His production experience translates into exhibition-making, where sequencing builds a coherent narrative. Current activity includes education and artist-led photographic expeditions in remote regions, shaped by fieldwork across more than forty countries and teaching focused on editing, meaning, and presentation.
