Ryan Jakubek (b. 1988) is a Canadian-Slovak visual artist and photographer. He holds a BFA from Toronto Metropolitan University and has completed printmaking residencies in Italy, Spain, and Indonesia. His work has been exhibited in non-profit cultural institutions and public galleries, with an emphasis on long-form series.
After receiving a degree in Image Arts, Ryan began providing principal photography services on scripted productions for film and television. Credits include over fifty titles for clients such as Netflix, Lionsgate, HBO, Amazon, and Disney. He also produces situated documentary photography for publication and distribution.
Documentary photographs often become source material for his studio practice, which is grounded in traditional printmaking and alternative photographic processes. Selected works adapt printed media into sculptural forms, collage, and projected elements, set alongside two-dimensional compositions.
Long-form storytelling informs how he shapes images into cohesive arcs for print and display. Recently, Ryan’s work has expanded to include education and specialized photographic tours in remote regions. These draw on series captured across more than forty countries and teaching centred on sequencing, meaning, and exhibition.
